Water and drainage

Water and drainage infrastructure is a major source of ongoing construction and maintenance activity across the UK. Driven by decades of underinvestment in the 20th century, rising populations, tightening environmental standards and climate change, this area of infrastructure frequently impacts on private property, access to which is generally available to the relevant undertakers via statutory powers of entry.

Implementing these powers of entry and dealing with compensation for affected owners and occupiers of property is an important role for surveyors. This section provides an overview of the regulatory background, the nature of the infrastructure itself and focuses on the role of the surveyor in the overall project delivery.
